Kafkárna

Tool collection

Kafkárna / UMPRUM Centre for Art and Ecology builds its institutional vision on the potential of art as both a tool and a means of envisioning change. The specific context of Kafkárna allows us to understand the notion of an institution in a broader sense – as an organised structure or network of relationships that shapes seemingly given norms and their interpretations in the context of climate change, social inequalities, and institutional fatigue.

In the context of cultivating the internal ecosystems of institutions, we work not only with the metaphor of the shed, but also, above all, to expand the possibilities offered by the various tools it brings together. Through different activities and collaborations with invited artists, we therefore initiate the collection and development of concrete material tools – toolkits – encompassing both specific artworks and embodied practices, inventory methods, probes, a public diary, embodied learning, and many others.
