The Magic Gardens cycle is a long-term project that combines multi-day excursions with artistic research inspired by the garden of Kafkárna – the Centre for Art and Ecology. Through shared journeys into different landscapes, encounters with artists, performative situations, lectures, and collective work in the field, it explores relationships between art, landscape, memory, and care for place. The garden functions here both as a metaphor and as a practical tool – a space where environmental questions, the historical memory of landscapes, issues of identity, and broader social transformations of the contemporary world intersect.

Each year of the cycle focuses on a different thematic framework and examines diverse forms of the relationship between humans and landscape. An important aspect of the project is the collective experience of slowly getting to know landscapes and sharing forms of knowledge that emerge at the intersection of art, ecology, and everyday practices of caring for place. In this way, the cycle creates space for experimental forms of artistic research and for exploring new ways of thinking about the relationship between culture, nature, and society.

Each edition of the cycle concludes with the publication of an authorial zine that thematically documents the individual journeys and brings together drawings, photographs, texts, and other artistic contributions by the participants. The publication functions both as documentation and as an autonomous artistic work that further develops the themes opened during these shared journeys through landscape.
