Hostina / Feast

2022

The Hostina Festival, held during the winter semester of 2021/22 at Kafkárna in Prague, was conceived as an open platform for exploring the connections between food, art, and ecological thinking. It focused on the ways in which the everyday practices of preparing and sharing food can reflect broader social, environmental, and cultural relationships.

The festival programme included lectures, collective cooking, performances, and artistic interventions addressing our relationship with soil, plants, natural cycles, and the climate crisis. The festival created a space for interdisciplinary encounters between artists, theorists, activists, and the local community.

Hostina also provided the impetus for a thematic publication – a cookbook – which brought together not only recipes, but also stories, ideas, artistic contributions, and experiences. The project demonstrated how an everyday activity such as eating can serve as a starting point for deeper reflection and for rethinking the way we relate to the world around us.

The cookbook was edited by Kateřina Vídenová and published by UMPRUM Publishing with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
