The first issue of the Magical Gardens zine loosely follows a series of excursions to remarkable gardens, inspired by and centred around the garden of Kafkárna in Prague. The publication introduces three women artists from different generations – Eva Brodská, Lucie Králíková and Kateřina Konvalinová – exploring their artistic practices, ways of living, and distinctive relationships with landscape, gardens, and the places in which they live and work.

Through a series of conversations, the publication brings together themes of simplicity, creativity, care, and everyday life. A recurring thread is the search for alternative ways of living and for ways in which seemingly ordinary practices can engage with broader social and environmental questions. Here, the garden is understood not only as a physical space, but also as a site of experimentation and imagination – a place from which to consider alternative scenarios for our relationship with the world around us.

The interviews were conducted and the publication edited by Kateřina Vídenová. The zine was published by UMPRUM Publishing with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
