COMMUNITY – Building and Living Shared Environments

4–7 May 2023

The second international symposium took place from 4 to 7 May 2023. During these days, various communal structures and ideas took shape at Kafkárna – the symposium was conceived as a working gathering in which several groups, together with the Berlin-based architectural collective raumlabor, developed different forms of collaboration. In doing so, Kafkárna continued its earlier involvement in the festival reEDOcate me!, organised by raumlabor in 2022 as part of the Floating University Berlin project.

Public lectures and film screenings related to the theme of community also took place in the early evenings of each working day of the symposium. The programme culminated in a Sunday “spa day”, during which the groups presented the outcomes of their work and participants were invited to rest and relax through the participatory art project Water Healing. The day was accompanied by further talks, communal cooking, and artistic performances.
