Kafkárna visits NCAD FIELD, Dublin

At the begining of June 2025 the co-founders of Kafkárna presented their work at NCAD FIELD, the College’s educational platform of critical and ecological thinking.

NCAD FIELD is a vast brownfield next to the College buildings which has been transformed throughout the years via a method of guerilla composting into a wild biodiverse landscape right in the centre of the city. In 2020 it started being used as a place for education in relation to the pandemic and the restrictions of groups staying indoors. Nowadays, it serves as a space for embodied, situated learning with an equal emphasis on human and more than human perspectives.

Kateřina and Amálie introduced the transformation of Kafkárna from a temporary sculpture studio of Bohumil Kafka into a Centre for Art and Ecology UMPRUM - a unique interconnection of a historical building, garden, people, sculptural artworks, animals, plants, mushrooms as well as interactions between all of these actors on the grounds of an academic institution. Similarly to NCAD FIELD, it offers a space to engage in a mutual intergenerational process of learning. Recently, Kafkárna has begun to open up to the public, gradually defining a program for the studio that blends ecology and art - symposiums, workshops, readings, lectures, screenings, dinners and more.
