KAFKÁRNA GARDEN VISITOR AND OPERATING RULES – GENERAL PROVISIONS

1. The garden is operated by the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), with its registered office at náměstí Jana Palacha 80, Prague 1, as well as by the garden itself, which operates independently of designated visiting hours.
2. The purpose of these rules is to ensure the functioning of the garden, in particular by guiding activities and establishing rules of conduct and conditions for its use by human visitors.
3. These rules apply to all beings and entities present in or using the garden, whether humans, animals, plants, fungi, objects, or anyone or anything beyond these categories.
4. The garden primarily serves all of its more-than-human inhabitants, and, secondarily, UMPRUM students and staff and the general public.
5. The garden may be visited and used by anyone in accordance with these rules during regular opening hours or by prior arrangement. UMPRUM also offers guided tours by prior arrangement.
6. The garden is open to the public on the first Sunday of each month from 12 noon to 6 p.m. These opening hours do not include access to the studio.
7. Artistic and cultural events take place in connection with the programme of the Centre for Art and Ecology and UMPRUM teaching. Such events are organised in a way that minimises the burden on the garden and include their own arrangements for cleaning, waste removal, materials used in the garden, and use of the summer kitchen.
8. The maintenance of paths and vegetation is not primarily carried out with public access in mind. Movement through the garden must therefore be adapted to climatic conditions and the current state of the garden. Different parts of the garden have different levels of accessibility; please ask for assistance with moving around the garden when needed.
9. In addition to the studio, the site includes a treehouse accessible to children.
10. People, animals, plants, and fungi may move freely around the garden as long as they do not restrict or endanger others.
11. Activities connected with the garden and teaching are based on a sustainable relationship with the surrounding environment. We therefore strongly prefer events serving exclusively vegan food.
12. A video surveillance system with recording is installed in the garden.
13. There are no toilets in the garden.

The following are not permitted in the garden:

• a) damaging trees, shrubs, lawns, or other vegetation, including picking or destroying plants;
• b) any acts of disrespect, discrimination, or violence towards individuals or groups, whether physical, verbal, or otherwise;
• c) smoking, except in the designated area by the fire pit;
• d) lighting fires or handling open flames (exceptions may be permitted by prior written agreement and are subject to separate regulations);
• e) damaging or removing any objects or furnishings belonging to the garden;
• f) littering or otherwise polluting the garden (the most appropriate way to dispose of any waste generated is to take it off the premises).

The following is encouraged in the garden:

1. spending time here with respect and sensitivity towards others who live here or are visiting;
2. activating senses that are usually kept in a state of inhibition and trying to connect with the garden or with one another in different ways;
3. using the time for meeting, discussion, work, or daydreaming;
4. considering ways of deepening interspecies relationships, both within the garden and beyond its boundaries.
