Fieldwork
Anotace projektu / project summary
Fieldwork: Cultivating Ecological Art Institutions is a collaborative project that supports cultural platforms and collectives in evolving into ecological art institutions by rethinking both their internal infrastructures and community engagement. The main objective is to explore innovative models in which contemporary ecological art institutions function as critical and creative public spaces for learning and exchange – while also reflecting on their own internal operations as living organisms that require both care and critical self-awareness. Six partner organisations from across Europe – Contemporary Art Archipelago (FI), Feuer&Flamme (DE), Island School of Social Autonomy (HR), UMPRUM-Kafkárna (CZ), NCAD FIELD (IE), and Spolka (SK) – representing diverse intersections of art, ecology, and community-based practice, will develop and test methodologies across three interwoven conceptual pillars:
- Cultivating institutions: Strengthening internal capacities, institutional care and sustainable management
- Fieldwork: Implementing hands-on, site-specific, embodied practices with local communities
- Harvesting knowledge: Collective learning, training, and knowledge dissemination
The project bridges local action with transnational collaboration, co-creating new infrastructures that emerge from specific “lived ecologies” while ensuring European-wide relevance. Key outputs include a suite of practical, adaptable toolkits: podcast, a workbook-guide for ecological imagination, and a methodological cookbook. Physical toolboxes–such as a shed for decolonial training–will provide tangible resources for cultivating ecological resilience. By delivering these scalable models, Fieldwork supports a wide range of actors–from marginalised initiatives to more established institutions –in reimagining their roles as proactive ecological agents. In doing so, the project contributes new models of art institutions as responsive, reflective and caring organisms in times of ecological crisis.
